A fine Cut Steel bracelet, Ca1780. This measures 19cm in length and 2.46cm in width. The steel is in good condition with only minor discolouration in a few of the steel leaves. This has a lot of history, which is explained. Cut Steel jewellery was popular in eighteenth to early twentieth century. It is ‘‘set’’ with tiny faceted and polished steel studs, fashioned to resemble gemstones and usually riveted in place. Many jewellery items including shoe buckles were fashioned in this way.n Cut Steel was being produced from as early as Elizabethan times but came into fashion and popularity when Louis XV asked for jewellery from the nobles to help fund his ‘seven year’ war . They were donated Cut Steel jewellery instead. This spurred the fashion for this in England and Birmingham became the main producer. Layaway options available on this piece of history.
