An Exquisite Georgian Hardstone Cameo and Hair Mourning Ring Ca1820

£0.00
sold out

STATUS: SOLD

An exquisitely carved cameo in a brown and white agate (hardstone) in a figure of a beautiful draped woman who is holding one hand up. The cameo is in a lovely marquise shape. The shank is beautifully enameled in black in between the gold. To the back of the shank is a braid of brown twisted hair. Surrounding the cameo, is a row of seed pearls. These have not been tested but according to age and appearance, are very likely to be natural pearls. They are lustrous and creamy in appearance. One needs replacing, which i will do tomorrow.
They are claw set. There is a very, minor and tiny chip , which is more like a nibble, to the side of the cameo and not face up. Face up, the cameo is perfect. This tiny, little minor chip is seen better with a loupe and does not detract from the piece in any way. The braiding is tight and well formed. Inside the shank, there is an ‘18ct’ stamp mark. This ring cannot be sized up or down.

Layaway options are offered so please do get in touch if you are interested. Insured shipping is also included. Please do read the terms of sale before making any purchase. As this piece is antique there should not be any import taxes, if you are U.S based. Thank you for stopping by .
