A Gorgeous, Sinuous Art Nouveau Pendant/Brooch.
This gorgeous Pendant/Brooch has a great heavy weight to it, immediately rendering it something of high quality. It is of the Art Nouveau period where the fashion was flowing and sensual form . This lady could be a siren; half fish, half woman who sang her way into the hearts of the sailors. She is surrounded by four pineapples which stand for ‘Bounty and Plenty’. She is encased in swirls of ‘Rose cut’ diamonds set in Silver on Gold. These are in good condition and a couple have tiny chips, as commensurate with age and wear but these can only be seen with a loupe and not with the naked eye. They are pave set in the silver and gold swirls and would weigh approximately 0.30cts in total. The pineapples and the skin of the woman is very finely textured.
This is a beautifully hand made piece by a skilled craftsman most likely French, though there are no marks. Sometimes, from this era, the French did not put on their ‘poincons’ marks (Eagle head for 18ct gold) but this style is most certainly typically French. A cultured pearl (not original to the piece) hangs off a loop at the bottom of the pendant to complete it. To the back, a new brooch pin has been added. This has been added to the old circular part which is detachable and then converts to a pendant. This lovely piece of jewellery comes in its own fitted box.
