A large Victorian star burst brooch with sixteen points, in diamond and opal. The face set with four oval cabochon cut opals and sixty-five old cut diamonds, 52mm diameter overall. The old cut diamonds and cabochon opals are claw set. The brooch is set silver on 9ct tested gold. This has been podium plated in the past , but can easily be stripped, if you wish. The 9ct yellow gold has begun to show through under this. There are visible, some screw fittings at the back, and this star probably formed part of a large tiara. The pin at the back and the tube clasp tests of 14ct white gold as does the tube clasp. Both are a later addition. This does not detract rom the beauty and splendor of this beautiful piece.
The centre diamond measures approximately 0.75-0.80cts . The stones are approx. H-I colour and mainly good, clean VS stones. A few stones have minor chips and abrasions commensurate with it’s age and wear. One of the opals has a minor chip which is visible via a loupe only.
This piece of jewellery can easily be converted to a pendant to be hung on a victorian gold chain. The fittings can easily be removed and a bail added if you wish it to be presented to you in this form. Ask me about this, and I can quote you, it would be a small fee to have the bail fitted.
Indeed, it is a piece, as timeless as the stars in the heavens and universe!
