Beautiful Sugar Loaf Natural Turquoise and 'Old Mine cut' Diamond Victorian Ring

£3,450.00

A Beautiful Sugar Loaf shaped Natural Turquoise (not constituted stone) and 'Old Mine cut' Diamond Ring in 18ct Yellow Gold.
The Turquoise is a natural stone (visual, verbal by myself) and is 'Claw set', in an 'Oval Sugarloaf Cut, which is rather gorgeous to look at, and indeed, a favourite cut of mine. The turquoise is Persian, with a desirable tone of blue, specific to that region. I love Persian turquoises the best. Their blue is a subtle and silky shade and deep yet pale, not as the deep brighter blue of the American turquoise. . Encircling the turquoise are 14 'Old Mine cut' diamonds, all white, and clean. One has a minor nick which can only be seen with a loupe and does not detract from the beauty of the ring in any way. The diamonds are bright, lively and sparkly. They measure approximately 0.13ct each, totalling 1.82 cts of diamonds. and are 'Claw set'. The turquoise measures 1.4cm X0.6cm. The shank is a plain, buttery gold one. The ring is currently a size 'O'(U.K), 71/2 (U.S.A) and can be easily sized up or down.

Turquoise, is one of the earliest gemstones to be mined, starting 3,000 years ago in Persia (now Iran) and is formed from formed from hydrated Copper Aluminium Phosphate. It was revered for its protection and healing properties to the wearer for those that believed. It was the talisman of kings, shamans and warriors. Originally mined from Persia, it is getting scarcer and scarcer to mine it from there and now the bulk source of supply comes from other countries such as Russia, USA, Afghanistan and Australia to name a few. It is a strong opaque stone which is smooth to the touch.
The name ‘Turquoise’ is derived from the French , ‘pierre turquoise’ – meaning Turkish stone. The trade route that brought this stone in, passed through Turkey and it was sold in its Bazaars to traveling tradesmen from afar and near.
Turquoise is prized as a symbol of wisdom, nobility, power, immortality and luck and this was especially believed by some of the ancient civilizations such as the ancient Egyptians, Persians, Chinese, Aztecs and Incas.
